The Paleo Diet

Paleo is my recommended way of eating.

The Paleolithic (Paleo) Diet has been around for thousands of years but is new to modern life. But it is currently greatly misunderstood.

The simplest way to explain Paleo is to say it is the way humans used to eat when we wandered the planet as hunter-gatherers.

Wikipedia describes the Paleolithic diet as…

The Paleolithic diet, also popularly referred to as the caveman diet, Stone Age diet and hunter-gatherer diet, is a modern nutritional diet designed to emulate, insofar as possible using modern foods, the diet of wild plants and animals eaten by humans during the Paleolithic era.[1] Proponents of the diet therefore recommend avoiding any foods that they claim were not available to humans at that time, including dairy products, grains, legumes, processed oils, and refined sugar. The Paleolithic diet is a fad diet[2] that has gained popularity in the 21st century.

I agree with leaving out grains because we have no bodily system for digesting grains. Dairy, however, is a recent addition to the human diet and about one third of humanity now has the genetic ability to digest the Lactose found in dairy. As such dairy can now be included for these people.

We hunted for animals (incl fish & seafood) and we gathered plants, including vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. According to the Paleo die-hards, grains and dairy should not be included.

Eating Paleo means eating as close to nature as possible. Eat only the foods that are complimentary to human systems and avoid the ones that are not.
